October 6, 2023 Bakels Sweden has now taken another important step towards its sustainability commitment by purchasing cocoa from Rainforest Alliance Certified plantations. It gives our customers the opportunity to offer certified products to consumers.
All the cocoa in our entire production in Sweden is now certified. We have chosen to work with Rainforest Alliance certified cocoa because the program considers the environment, working conditions and the conditions of the farmers. It also provides cocoa farmers with training in cultivation methods and bean quality.

The Nordics and Western Europe are the largest markets for certified cocoa, and the industry is experiencing an increased demand.
In the consumer market, the Rainforest Alliance label is recognizable by the green frog. The seal was introduced in connection with the Rainforest Alliance merging with the UTZ Certified certification in September 2020.
